Guns'n'Glory
With so many copy-cat, cloned Tower Defense games on the Android, it is really heartening to see original gems like Guns 'n' Glory pop up from time to time. This Wild West themed shooter is not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but it is not every day that you get the chance to play the bad guys in these types of games.
In Guns 'n' Glory, you are placed in charge of some bandits with the aim of ambushing settlers as they make their way towards the West. Killing the men, woman, stage coaches and horseback riders that make their way through the canyons rewards you with gold. These ill-gotten gains allow you to hire more henchmen that are snoozing on the playing field or to upgrade your existing units. The poor settlers are completely defenseless so raining down a hail of bullets, arrows, dynamite and cannon balls on them might not sit well with some players. Everything is done in a bright, cartoony fashion however with no blood or gore. Your units consist of Mexicans, Native Americans, Chinese and all manner of other typically clichéd Western villains. You can even bolt Gatling guns to train carriages in order to halt the progress of the settlers. In a unique twist, your units are all mobile and can be directed to new locations should the need arise. Trains can obviously only move on tracks but your other units are free to go where the threat is greatest, provided that they can reach it. If enough settlers slip past you, the sheriff is called in to end your wicket ways. This means you'll have to shuffle your defenses around on maps with multiple entry points in order to prevent any settlers from squealing to the law. There is some loot chests scattered about the playing area to make your life easier with cash bonuses or power ups for your units. Guns 'n' Glory is a good looking game but the action can be a little frantic for small screens. I also found myself accidently moving units when I was attempting to scroll the playing field. The game comes in a paid and ad-supported version and while the latter has a huge ad at the bottom of the screen, it at least doesn't' feature any money sapping micro transactions. The game has a lot of content and is very polished so it is definitely worth supporting the developers. Amongst all the fantasy and war themed Tower Defense games available, Guns 'n' Glory really stands out from the crowd. It is one of those games that can really hook you and result in extended play sessions when you only planned on playing a round or two. |
