Squibble
Squibble is, what I can only presume to be, a small squid that has been captured by a mad biologist. Your mission is to help poor Squibble escape his crazy captor and make his way back to the ocean. Standing in your way is an assortment of enemies, including rats, dragonflies, crabs and birds as well as some rather nasty spikes that turn Squibble into sushi.
Don't let the rather basic, vector cartoon looks of Squibble fool you. The game is rather tricky and once you are hooked it can become rather addictive. The catch in this game is that instead of directly controlling the little green squid, you can only indicate where it attaches its tentacles. Attaching one tentacle will cause Squid to dangle or swing while attaching two tentacles enables you to slingshot it, Angry Birds style across the level. The trick is of course to avoid the enemies while traversing the levels. The game isn't especially hard once you get the hang of it but since you cannot zoom out, it can be tricky to make your way to the exit. There are arrow signs that point the way but it is still possible to end up in a dead end, forcing you to backtrack. Levels are rather short however so this isn't too big an issue. While traversing the levels you can also collect water droplets which I presume is to hydrate Squibble but this was never made very clear. The visuals are pretty simple but the game ran smoothly and levels never become overly cluttered. The castle, field and beach levels don't show a lot of variation between them but new levels have been promised for the game. The audio is also a bit on the limited side with only one or two short tunes and the squeaks from Squibble when he is injured. A free version of Squibble is available from the Android store so you can see for yourself whether it is a game that you will want to keep playing. |
