Zombie Dash
While Zombie Dash apparently have some sort of back-story about your town being overrun by the walking dead, all you need to worry about is jumping and shooting. Your character automatically dashes across the screen but it is up to you to dodge the obstacles and blast the undead.
The goal in Zombie Dash is simply to make it as far as possible before your character inevitably succumbs. Your default weapon is a shotgun which actually works quite well against the zombies although you have to be up close to hit them. Collecting the coins that are scattered en route enables you to buy new weapons from the shop but due to the expensive prices this can take quite a while. Apart from the zombies, bottomless pits, spikes and electrical barriers that have to be avoided, there are also some helpful crates that you definitely want to be aiming for. These can contain anything from health to replenish the three hearts that you start off with to time limited shields and even an armored robot suite. All the weapons from the shop such as the machine gun, bazooka and freeze thrower can also be found in these crates but only last until the ammo runs out. There is also a jetpack up for grabs which will grant you some limited flight time. The cartoon visuals look pretty good and the game looks nice on both phones and tablets. The simple controls mean that just about anyone can pick up this game and start playing. It is quite addictive attempting to beat your previous best run but with only four different background types, the game can become somewhat repetitive. The pace of the game picks up automatically the further you get so it takes some quick reflexes to dodge all the obstacles and blast the zombies. Fortunately, the touch-screen controls are very responsive. The ability to choose between a male and female lead character is a nice touch but changes nothing about the gameplay. While Zombie Dash is pretty much a clone of Monster Dash, it is still a blast to play and absolutely free to boot. The slow rate of acquiring coins is obviously intentional to tempt you into spending some real cash to speed things up but buying the weapons is not really essential to enjoy the game. You cannot switch between bought weapons mid-game and I for one enjoyed the randomness of finding them in power-up boxes. The limited uses just made the gameplay more entertaining. If you enjoy endless runners with plenty of action and good visuals then Zombie Dash comes highly recommended. |
